What's Kinderspot?
The Kinderspot app is an innovative solution developed by the U.S. Air Force to address child care challenges faced by military families. It allows Department of Defense families on Air and Space Force bases to offer or find weeklong blocks of time for child care at Department of the Air Force-run child development centers (CDCs). This approach, akin to “subletting,” is designed to maximize schedule availability at CDCs and offer families more flexibility in planning their child care needs. The app supports preschool-age and younger children and is available for both Apple and Android devices.
Kinderspot works by enabling families already enrolled at a CDC to offer their unused weeklong child care slots to other families, who can then rent these spots. When a spot is rented, the family offering the slot receives a credit to their account. The app facilitates nearly 3,700 short-term child care arrangements, helping military families navigate the complexities of deployments, temporary duty assignments, or vacations more smoothly.
