Hike Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield

Step back in time and experience history where it happened on this immersive 5-mile guided hike through Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield. Led by an expert National Park Ranger, this journey brings the stories of the Civil War to life as you explore preserved landscapes, historic landmarks, and significant battle sites. Along the way, youโ€™ll gain fascinating insights into the strategies, personal accounts, and pivotal moments that shaped historic ground. After the hike, enjoy a relaxing picnic on the battlefield. This includes transportation, beginner 5-mile hike with park ranger, hiking sticks and lunch. *This program is open to ages 12+.

Trip Itinerary:

8:15am: Meet at Joint Base Andrews Outdoor Recreation (1235 Menoher Drive) Please arrive on time.

8:30am-10:00am: Drive to Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield

10:00am-11:30am: Hike

11:30am-12:00pm: Lunch

12:00pm-1:30pm: Hike

1:30pm: Wrap Up and Load Bus

2:00pm-3:30pm: Drive back to JBA ODR

Eligibility:

All active-duty military, including reserves and national guard, DoD employees, their dependents and up to five additional non-military affiliated guests are welcome to participate in any Outdoor Adventure Program.

 

Caution:

Participation in this outdoor hiking experience involves inherent risks, including but not limited to uneven terrain, exposed roots and rocks, inclines, weather changes, insects, and physical exertion. Participants may experience fatigue, dehydration, slips, trips, or falls. While this is a guided hike, conditions on historic battlefields remain largely natural and undeveloped, which can present unexpected hazards. By choosing to participate, individuals acknowledge these risks and agree to take personal responsibility for their safety, including wearing appropriate footwear, staying hydrated, following ranger instructions, and pacing themselves according to their physical ability.
